VIVE STUDIOS & KAI Showcase Next‑Generation XR & AI Defense Technology at ‘ADEX 2025’

Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) announced on October 22 that it will unveil next‑generation XR (extended reality) and AI‑based defense technologies at Seoul ADEX 2025 (Seoul International Aerospace & Defense Exhibition), held from October 20 to 25 at KINTEX in Goyang‑si, Gyeonggi‑do.

The exhibition is divided into the M&S zone (Modelling & Simulation Zone) and IPS zone (Integrated Product Support Zone), with AI specialist VIVE STUDIOS participating as a key technology partner. In the M&S zone, KAI will present an “XR‑based visualization system.” This system replicates real‑world battlefield situations as digital twins and provides real‑time operational data to commanders. Moving beyond traditional 2D situational boards, the immersive 3D environment allows intuitive understanding of battlefield information, enabling faster and more accurate tactical decisions.

VIVE STUDIOS is collaborating with KAI to develop the battlefield visualization engine using Unreal Engine, leveraging its broadcast and XR expertise in real‑time rendering and visualization technologies. In the IPS zone, the jointly developed next‑gen IETM (Interactive Electronic Technical Manual) and virtual maintenance training platform will be demonstrated. For example, the AI‑based training system for KF‑21 fighters uses broadcast‑grade virtual production technology to simulate real maintenance environments. Trainees learn step‑by‑step procedures in a virtual setting, receive real‑time AI feedback, and share the process live with exhibition visitors through streaming.

The next‑generation IETM operates in a 3D interactive environment built on Unreal Engine, supports VR mode for full immersion, and features voice‑command control. Trainees can rotate, move, zoom in/out of 3D models, play/pause animations, and loop segments — all via verbal commands. Equipped with RAG (retrieval‑augmented generation)‑based SLM (small‑language‑model) capability, it enables semantic voice understanding and real‑time Q&A. When a trainee asks a question, the AI searches the manual, highlights relevant parts in the 3D model, and plays related animations.

A KAI official remarked, “This XR and AI‑integrated next‑generation logistics and maintenance training system enables realistic practice without actual equipment, greatly reducing costs and improving efficiency.” He added, “We will set a new standard for future maintenance training and operational simulation at ADEX 2025.”

The Seoul ADEX, held every two years, is Asia’s largest aerospace and defense industry exhibition. This year, the six‑day event takes place at KINTEX Exhibition Hall 2 and Seoul Airport in Goyang‑si, featuring aircraft displays, defense‑technology demonstrations, and an air show.
