Vive Studios, an AI-based virtual production company, announced on the 28th that its CEO, Kim Se-gyu, received the President’s Award from the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) at the 2024 Korea Popular Culture and Arts Production Staff Awards, held on the 21st.

The 2024 Production Staff Awards is an official government award hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and KOCCA. It aims to recognize and reward production staff who have contributed to the development of the national popular culture and arts industry. The awards are open to staff who have worked in the fields of film, broadcasting, and music performances for more than three years.

Kim Se-gyu, CEO of Vive Studios, received the KOCCA President’s Award in recognition of his contributions over the past 30 years to the development of convergence media and the popular culture industry in Korea. He was recognized for introducing cutting-edge technology into both traditional and new media industries, including film, television, music videos, and performances.

Vive Studios provides services such as virtual production, spatial design, and content creation using AI technology. The company specializes in visual effects (VFX) based on computer graphics (CG) and 3D technologies and utilizes virtual production to apply real-time effects during filming.

In 2020, Vive Studios garnered attention for its work on the VR project for the public documentary “Meeting You.” The studio has also created virtual humans of historical figures such as Kim Gu and former presidents, and it continues to collaborate on large-scale dramas and other major projects.

Recently, the company launched the AI-powered photo booth brand “SNAPAI” and opened a flagship store. The booth features functions such as “PlayToon,” which transforms user photos into cartoon characters; “Caricature,” which stylizes the image; and “AI Profile,” which creates profile photos in various backgrounds and themes.

Yoo Hyun-seok, Acting President of KOCCA, stated, “This awards ceremony is meant to spotlight the contributions of production staff and raise awareness of the working conditions in the popular culture and arts industries. I hope this recognition helps elevate appreciation for the passion and dedication of production staff.”

Kim Se-gyu, CEO of Vive Studios, remarked, “I’m simply grateful to receive an award for doing what I love. This is not a result I achieved alone, so I take it as encouragement to keep pushing forward and dedicate this honor to the entire team at Vive Studios.”
