Co-produced with Monster Union, this KBS2 epic historical drama tells the story of Emperor Hyeonjong of Goryeo,
who united the kingdom through his leadership of tolerance and led it to victory against the Khitan invasions.
It also follows General Gang Gam-chan, Hyeonjong’s political mentor and the supreme commander of the Goryeo army,
whose brilliance shaped the tides of war and history.
Production Story
Director Shin Chang-woo / VFX Supervisor
“We focused on creating the scale fitting for a massive war scene, using 3D spatial technology and terrain data to realistically depict rugged landscapes for the movement of large-scale troops.
Unlike previous projects, The Goryeo-Khitan War involved us from the earliest planning stages, which made it a long and demanding process spanning nearly a year.
It was physically tough — shooting through the summer’s heavy rains and extreme heat, then enduring the freezing winter — but thanks to the director’s strong leadership and the dedication of the entire crew, we were able to achieve a great result.”
